What kind of telephoto converter should I get for my Canon Rebel XT?

I want to get more length out of my 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens for my Canon Rebel XT without buying a really expensive lens. So I thought I'd look for a telephoto converter but I don't know which type to get because I'm not sure if there is a certain type I need to look for. Thanks in advance.
