What happened to Woody Woodpecker?

He was popular when he was on TV in the '80s and '90s. What happened to him? Is he one of those vintage Hollywood toon characters that faded away into animation obscurity? I know for a fact they put all the clic Woody shorts on DVD. Is the reason they don't show them on TV anymore is because they're deemed non-politically correct?
